A conference on the theme "Culture and Environmental Protection" will take place on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 6 pm at the Museum of Typography. The event is organized in the framework of the 8th Summer School for Environmental Journalism organized by the Regional Press Institute, the Department of Journalism and Mass Media of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Journalism and Communication Applications Laboratory from the Department of Communication and Media at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Institute of Technology and Research, at the RPI facilities (Hagia Sophia Foundation) in Agioi Pantes Apokoronou, Crete.

The program of the event includes a welcome from Yannis Garedakis, Chairman of the Museum of Typography, Chairman of the Regional Press Institute and founder of the newspaper "Haniotika nea" and a tour of the museum by Elia Koumi, Director of the Museum of Typography, followed by the speeches:

The Museum of Typography presents the theatrical play "Ta pteroenda dora” (The flying gifts), based on texts by Alexandros Papadiamantis (1851 - 1911), on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 7:30 pm. in it's hospitable amphitheater, at the Park of Small Industries of Chania, Souda.

The play, directed and performed by Marinella Vlachaki - music, song, video by Leonidas Maridakis, is based on three dramatic short stories of the famous greek writer.

Three stories with a Christmas background, that illuminate aspects of human existence as people struggle to survive sometimes against the fury of nature, sometimes against unfulfilled desires, and sometimes are condemned by their own passions.

Through the speech of the “saint of the Greek letters”, Alexandros Papadiamantis, the audience of the play travels to the long-time passions of the people. The play will be performed using the original language of the texts, "katharevousa" (a "purist" written language heavily influenced by ancient Greek), official language of Greece during the period of the writer’s life.

The museum will be open from 6:30 pm. for those who want to tour its collections.

Admission to the public will be free.

The Museum of Typography is participating in the celebration of the International White Cane Day with an event that will take place in the amphitheatre of the museum on Friday, October 12 2018, at 10 am.
The event aims to raise awareness on the right of equal access to education and to every facet of everyday life for blind and partially sighted people.
During the event selected speakers will share their own experience with the audience:
• Manos Tsitsiridakis, lawyer, Ph.D. candidate, will speak about the international white cane day, Braille and the right to knowledge and education.
• Eva Tsichlaki, assistant physiotherapist, blind cycling athlete will speak about the right to accessibility and independent living, but also address the problems blind people encounter in their day-to-day movement.
The event will include highschools students, while the public will be able to ask questions, learn how blind and partially sighted people write, read and communicate and see the Greek Braille alphabet and a typewriter from the museum collection, a donation of the Lighthouse of the Blind of Greece.
At the end visitors will be able to attend a guided tour of the Museum's collections from the early centuries of Typography to the present day.

Conference on the theme "Environment and Ecosystems" will be held on Monday, July 23 2018 at 6:30 pm. at the Museum of Typography, as part of the 7th Summer School on Environmental Journalism organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Media of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in collaboration with the Institute of Applied Communication of the Department of Communication and Media of the University of Athens, the Foundation of Technology and Research (FORTH) and the Regional Press Institute. Co-organizers are the Region of Crete - Regional Unity of Chania, the Municipality of Apokoronas, the Municipality of Platanias, the Chania Bar Association - Environmental Law Observatory, the Museum of Natural History of the University of Crete, the Environmental Education Center of Vamos and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Chania with the support of the Regional Development Fund of Crete.
The evening will begin with a guided tour of the Museum of Typography and will be followed by speeches according to the following program:

With 570 entries from around the world, a number that surpassed all expectations, the 4th International Poster Contest by the Museum of Typography was completed. The winners of the contest will be unveiled on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 7:30 pm. in an event devoted to typography, at the amphitheater of the Museum.

The first three winners will receive important prizes (1000 euros first, 700 euros second and 500 euros third), the 30 best posters selected by the jury will be presented in the exhibition and their creators will receive honorary distinctions.

Greetings will be addressed by the members of the jury (alphabetically) Dimitris Arvanitis, Graphic Designer, member of AG I - Alliance Graphique Internationale, Yiannis Garedakis, journalist - publisher, founder of the newspaper "Haniotika nea" and chairman of the Museum of Typography, Lila Kalogeri, illustrator, Antonis Papantonopoulos, printer, graphic designer, collaborator of MT, Tzanetos Petropouleas, designer, former chairman of the Graphic Designers Association of Greece. The sixth member of the committee, Juan Diego Restrepo, graphic designer, winner of the 3rd poster contest, will not be able to attend the event.

This year's entries come from professionals, students and amateurs of graphic arts from 51 countries, literally from every part of the world: Azerbaijan, Egypt, Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Vietnam, Bosnia, Herzegovina, France, Germany, Georgia, Ecuador, Australia, Canada, China, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Cyprus, Latvia, Belarus, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Zimbabwe, United Kingdom, USA, Japan, Netherlands, Hungary, Ukrane, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Taiwan, Turkey, Czech Republic, Tunisia, Yemen, Finland. And of course, from every corner of Greece: Athens, Veria, Volos, Drama, Heraklion, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Kavala, Kastoria, Kozani, Larissa, Patras, Preveza, Chania.

The distinguished posters will be exhibited at the Museum of Typography for approximately a year until the next contest.

After the event, the names of the winners will be announced from the museum's website www.typography-museum.gr, the Museum's facebook page, the "Haniotika news" newspaper and the website of the sponsors of the contest.

The international poster contest organized by the Museum of Typography is an institution that began in 2014.

The new publication of the Museum of Typography, a children’s book called "Traces of a dot ... or a dot in the Museum of Typography" will be presented on Sunday, January 28th, 2018 at the amphitheatre of the museum. The story was written by the writer and musician Maro Theodorakis. The presentation will be dramatized by the children and adults groups of “Stage without limits”, with Maro Theodorakis singing and accompanying with her piano. Artistic editing and narration by Stella Skordara.

At the end of the event, all children will have the opportunity to print the end of the story at an old printing press from the museum's collection.

The narrative unfolds the tender story of a dot that a boy's paints turned into a warm sun. The little anxious dot wanted to live forever in order to send her warmth to the hearts of people. Heaven conspired with Earth and, with the help of the southern wind, transfered the dot in Chania, at the Museum of Typography, so that its story, its form, would remain printed for a lifetime.

The book was illustrated by Lila Kalogeri.

The little restless dot is already loved by the small friends of the Museum of Typography, as the narration of the story is part of the educational programme for kindergarten and the first classes of Primary School. The book is in greek, with an english version planned in the near future.

A workshop on " Renaissance Typography meets Cretan Literature through Street Art" will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Museum of Typography.
The participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of Greek writing and typography, the Cretan literature of the Renaissance and the course of street art.
The workshop is organized by the Museum of Typography, the Department of Secondary Educaton in Chania and the Department of Graphic Design of the Athens School of Art Studies. Also, schools from all over Crete that participated in the same regional network last year will have the opportunity to present their actions.
This is the second consecutive year that students of Crete meet Erotokritos and Erofili, learn about the early Greek typography and express themselves through street art, thanks to the network created by the students' group, Tyropropion, of the Graphic Design Department of the School of Art Studies of the ATEI of Athens the Departments of Secondary Education of Chania and Lasithi with the support of the Museum of Typography.
The aim of the project is to connect two different means of visual communication, early typography and street art, with the unsurpassed works of Cretan literature so that cultural tradition, education and artistic expression can communicate constructively the past, present and future.

An event for typography and engraving will take place on Sunday 8th of October 2017 at 11:30 am at the Museum of Typography, Chania, as a parallel activity of the exhibition - a tribute to the publisher, Teriad, hosted at the Municipal Art Gallery of Chania.

The program of the event includes a guided tour of the museum, a screening of the film "Aglaon - The Classical Typography" by Yannis Stefanakis and an engraving workshop on wood and linoleum by the distinguished Greek engraver Yannis Stefanakis, applied to museum equipment.

The language of the workshop is Greek.

Yannis D. Stefanakis was born in Grigoria of Heraklion, Crete. He studied at the School of Fine Arts, Painting, Engraving, Hagiography as well as Art of the book and typography. In 1980, with poet Michalis Katsaros he published the poetry newspaper "Epipedo" (level). Since 1989 he has been publishing the magazine for the speech and the visuals "Neo Εpipedo” (New Level) and since 2003 the collectible magazine "Technopolis". Since 1996 she has been publishing collectible books. He has organized engraving seminars and has collaborated with publishers and literary magazines. He teaches drawing and engraving. In 2002, he talked about the collectors' books at the 1st International Conference on Typography and Visual Communication (ICTVC) at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki. In 2004, at the 2nd Conference on Typography and Visual Communication at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, he screened a film about classical typography. His works are in museums, galleries, the Ministry of Culture, as well as in important private collections in Greece and abroad.

An evening with speeches about "Environment and Ecosystems" will take place on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the Museum of Typography, as part of the 6th Summer School for Environmental Journalism organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Media of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Regional Press Institute in collaboration with the Department of Communication and Media of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which will be hosted at the RPI facilities, at Agioi Pantes Apokoronou (Agia Sophia Foundation).

The worldwide community of museums (ICOM) will celebrate International Museum Day on and around 18 May 2017. The theme chosen for 2017 is "Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums".

The Museum of Typography participates in the celebration of the International Museum Day, hosting a discussion about the Refugee issue. The event, to be held at 11 am on the morning of 20 May 2017, will include schools and students with social and refugee awareness, as well as organizations from social solidarity structures of Chania such as the “Social Pharmacy”, the “Social haunt for Immigrants, but also the rewarded for her rescue work in the greek islands, lifeguard Mania Bikov - responsible for Lifeguard Hellas - Hellenic Center for Education.

The following Secondary Education Schools will present their actions: 2nd High School of Chania, Souda Lyceum, Vamos High School.

Souda High School and Vamos High School will also participate in the discussion.
