It is with great joy that we announce the names of the 30 creators of this year's selected posters, from over 700 participants of our 8th International Poster Contest, titled “Racism - Xenophobia”!
As always, the selected 30 posters will be exhibited in the Museum Amphitheater for at least one year!
The final 3 winners will be announced during the awards ceremony, on Saturday, 25th May 2024.

The Museum of Typography Yiannis and Eleni Garedakis announces the 8th International Poster Contest, titled “Racism – Xenophobia”.
In the land of Zeus Xenios, on the island of the protector of strangers already since the ancient times, this year’s international poster contest is scheduled to take place, bearing the title “Racism – Xenophobia”, emphasising once again a burning issue for the whole world.
The contest will take place from Monday, 18 September 2023, until Wednesday, 10 April 2024.
The committee, consisting of three members, who will decide on the winners of the 8th International Poster Contest, titled “Racism – Xenophobia”, by the Museum of Typography Yiannis & Eleni Garedakis, consists of:
Alexandros Kokkolas, graphic designer, Creative Director AKC and professor at the Vakalo Art & Design College.
Ioanna Kostarella, Associate Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Katerina Lazaridou, studied graphic design-decoration, active in the graphic arts from 1979 to 2018, while currently studying in the Athens School of Fine Arts.
The poster should be accompanied by a short explanatory text explaining its content and purpose.
The invitation concerns adults, mainly professionals and students of graphic and visual arts.
From the 30 posters selected by the jury the first three will receive significant cash prizes.

1) Those interested should send their work from Monday, 18 September 2023 to Friday, 10 April 2024, to the email: typography.poster@gmail.com.
The poster should be accompanied by the entry form and a short description of the project (up to 100 words).

2) It is forbidden to use AI. The dimensions should be 50 × 70 cm PDF, CMYK, image at 200 ppi and should not exceed 25 MB. Otherwise the files should be sent by wetransfer. It is necessary to attach a poster file in jpg format in low resolution up to 1 MB for web use.
3) Each participant can submit only one, original project, which has not participated in another competition. The employees of "Haniotika Nea" SA and the "Museum of Typography by Yiannis & Eleni Garedakis" are excluded from the competition.
4) The poster must bear the museum logo, either in Greek or English. You can find the logo at www.typography-museum.gr/logos.pdf
5) The results of the competition will be announced at the awards ceremony, to be be hosted in the amphitheater of the "Museum of Typography". "Planet Earth at the ecological crossroad"
At the peak of the climate crisis, the message of environmental awareness is required to reach as many of us as possible. The poster as “messenger” plays its own part in this global effort to save the planet.
The contest will take place from Monday, 7 November 2022 until Friday, 10 March 2023.
The poster should be accompanied by a short explanatory text explaining its content and purpose. The invitation mainly concerns professionals and students of graphic and visual arts.
The 30 posters selected by the jury (the members of which will be announced soon) will receive honorary distinctions and the first three will receive significant cash prizes.
• 2.000 euros the first winner
• 1.500 euros the second winner
• 1.000 euros the third winner
These posters will be presented in an exhibition that will be hosted in the amphitheater of the Museum of Typography for a year, until the next competition.
The awarding of prizes and distinctions will take place on Saturday, 13 May, 2023, in the amphitheater of the Museum of Typography, at the Park of Small Industries of Chania, Souda, Crete.

3. The Museum of Typography of Giannis and Eleni Garedaki will be free to re-use freely, for any purpose and in any way, original or adapted, all or part of the material sent by the 30 creators who received awards or honors.
4. Participation in the competition automatically implies acceptance of the terms of this notice.
Connecting typography with photography opens new paths of creation for the Museum of Typography and there were many photographers who responded to the museum's call to organise an exhibition that would artistically capture the special exhibits and the unique atmosphere of the Museum.
The exhibition was hosted at the exhibition space of the Center for Mediterranean Architecture (CMA), in the Grand Arsenal of Chania, from 15 to 31 July 2022 and its visitors had the opportunity to vote for their favourite photo.
About 2,000 exhibition visitors participated in the voting.
The photographers whose works stood out in a public vote at the exhibition: "The power of the image" were honoured with symbolic awards on the evening of Monday, August 1, 2022, at an event in the amphitheater of the Museum of Typography by Yannis and Eleni Garedaki.
All the photographers who participated in the exhibition received honorary distinctions.
The 1st prize was awarded to Michalis Polychronakis by the founder and chaiman of the Museum of Typography, Yiannis Garedakis.
The 2nd prize was awarded to Stella Manioudaki.
And the 3rd prize was awarded to Nikos Kampianakis.

Photographs that capture the special exhibits and the unique atmosphere of the Museum of Typography, are presented in the exhibition "The power of the image – An exhibition for the Museum of Typography” which will be hosted from 15 – 31 July 2022 at the exhibition space of CMA, Great Arsenal, in the heart of the Venetian harbour of Chania.
Opening hours: 10:00 - 13:00 & 19:00 - 23:00.
As part of the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite photo, and three symbolic awards will be given to the ones that stand out. The winners will be announced on the last day of the exhibition.
